Bruce Lee Jones is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center on murder charges in the death of his mother, Sandra Jelks, whose body was discovered on December 6th in the living room of her home.
Collinsville Police and Fire, DeKalb Ambulance Service and DeKalb County Deputies responded to a call at 7:55 pm on the 6th to an unresponsive female at a home on Watts Drive. Mrs. Jelks was deceased when they arrived on the scene.
Investigators immediately developed a suspect, Bruce Lee Jones, age 41 of Collinsville and arrested him shortly after on unrelated charges and held him in the Cherokee County Jail.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department called on the Cherokee County Sheriff’s department for assistance along with the 9th Circuit District Attorney’s Office and the JSU Center for Applied Forensics in the investigation due to the victim also being the mother of a DeKalb County Sheriff Office employee.
After a thorough investigation Bruce Lee Jones was formally charged with Murder on December 9th 2022. Jones is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $1,000,000.00 bond.
