Tuesday’s Piedmont City Council Planning Meeting opened up with Terry Batey and Ashlee Jones from the Piedmont Arts and Entertainment Committee. Batey explained that they were trying to curve the budget a bit for this year’s 4th of July event downtown, but are still looking to bring in talent such as “Kings of Swing”, a band based out of Gadsden.
Batey went on to say they were putting together a children’s area, including attractions such as a petting zoo, Sam the Balloon Man, and possibly even horse rides. They are currently asking for sponsors and vendors for the event. The estimated cost will be under $3,500 and the committee will meet Thursday night at 6pm to go over all of the details involved in the celebration.
A fireworks show is also planned to top off the evening, and as of right now, the event will take place on Saturday July 2nd from 3pm – 9pm at the Piedmont Sports Complex. If the event gets rained out, they will have fireworks only on Monday July 4th.
In other news, Jones also shared that a job fair would be taking place on June 13th at the Oxford Civic Center. They also announced that more family movie nights were in the works for Piedmont as well.
