The first Alabama Sports Writers Association softball and baseball rankings of the season were released early Thursday morning.

Spring Garden softball (3-0) leads the area’s selections, coming in at No. 3 in Class 2A. Other area softball teams receiving nominations include Class 2A Sand Rock (9-9), Class 1A Cedar Bluff (5-5-2) and Class 4A Cherokee County (3-7).

In baseball, Class 3A Piedmont (7-4) is ranked fifth. Spring Garden and Cedar Bluff are both at No. 8 in the 2A and 1A baseball polls respectively. Sand Rock (2-1) and Cherokee County (6-6) are among the other teams nominated.
