Leesburg Police Chief Jamie Chatman confirms one person was killed in a two vehicle crash involving an 18 wheeler late Friday morning.
The accident occurred on Highway 411 South near Garrett Tire shortly after 11:00.
60 year old Kathy Roe of Hokes Bluff was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the 2007 Pontiac she was driving. Chatman said that Roe was not wearing a seatbelt.
Chatman said that he would like to thank the Leesburg Fire Department, Centre Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Rescue Squad and Alabama State Troopers for their assistance at the scene. The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office was also called to the scene.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
