A log truck traveling through Leesburg on the way to Rome dropped its fully loaded trailer in the middle of Highway 68, shortly after 8:00 Tuesday morning – in front of the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy.
Fortunately the trailer simply dropped to the ground and did not overturn or cause a wreck
Apparently the cause of the incident was a mechanical malfunction.
We spoke with the driver and he told us, according to a mechanic – the locking mechanism holding the trailer in place had failed.
Traffic is expected to be blocked for an extended period of time as the trailer will have to be off-loaded before it can be hauled away.
Motorists will be re-routed onto County Road 44 until the cleanup has been completed. All those traveling in that area should give themselves extra time to get where they’re going.
