Warriors split basketball games with Glencoe

CENTRE – Cherokee County split a varsity basketball doubleheader with visiting Glencoe on Tuesday. The Warrior boys earned an 81-68 victory, while the Lady Warriors dropped a 62-60 decision.

In the boys game, Jack Amos netted 29 points. Landon Caldwell tossed in 17 points. Cade Hopper had 14 points and Malachi Horton finished with 10 points.

Wade Segrest led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Drew Johnston added 13 points and Aiden Cornutt finished with 11 points.

Cherokee County (11-13) built a 25-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and held a 51-26 edge at halftime. The Warriors led 63-46 after three quarters.

In the girls game, Audrey Haygood led the Lady Warriors (15-8) with 21 points. Carson Coley added 17 points and Ella Garmany finished with 10 points.

Jaxson Sizemore topped Glencoe with 26 points. Kinsley Gray added 16 points, including four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Glencoe led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter and 30-27 at halftime. The Lady Warriors surged ahead 47-44 after three quarters, but Glencoe regained the lead down the stretch and held on for the final.
