TUSCUMBIA – The Cherokee County High School wrestling team defeated St. John Paul II 38-30 in the first round of the Class 4A Wrestling Duals at Deshler on Friday to advance to the Elite 8. The Warriors then fell in the quarterfinals to Deshler 56-24.

“We are beyond proud of this group of guys and the progress they have made this season,” first-year Warrior coach Andrew McBrayer said. “Although our duals season is now over, we can now switch our focus to the individual state tournament preparation.”

The state wrestling championships are next Friday, Jan. 21 at Bill Harris Arena and the Birmingham CrossPlex.
