Spring Garden boys, girls combine to sink 27 treys in area basketball wins at Gaston

GADSDEN – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers sank 12 3-pointers and the Panther boys rang for 15 treys in a Class 2A, Area 12 basketball sweep at Gaston on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers won 85-12 while the Panther boys earned a 90-52 victory.

In the girls game, Neely Welsh delivered 22 points, including a pair of treys, to go along with five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Sarah Kate McKay managed 14 points, five boards, an assist, a steal and a block. Ace Austin added 13 points, four boards, three assists, seven steals and two blocks. Kaley Kirk connected on three 3-pointers and had 11 points to go along with five boards, four assists and four steals. Bri Boles collected nine points, including a pair of treys, with six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Abbie Woods finished with nine points on three treys with five steals, two assists and a rebound.

The Lady Panthers (18-1) built a 29-0 first-quarter lead and held a 51-6 advantage at halftime.

In boys action, Jacob Welsh posted 25 points, 10 boards, two assists and a blocked shot. Cam Welsh drained five 3-pointers and had 16 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a block. John Welsh also scored 16 points to go along with eight boards, three steals and two assists. Cooper Austin added nine points, 10 assists, three blocks, three rebounds and two steals. Andrew Bates came away with nine points, two boards and a steal. Andrew Floyd finished with eight points, four boards, three assists and a steal.

Spring Garden (10-4) built a 34-14 first-quarter advantage and held a 47-25 edge at halftime.

Both Panther squads travel to Sand Rock on Friday.
