At least one tornado touched down in Alabama during Wednesday’s round of severe weather. The National Weather Service in Huntsville states that a storm survey team has found damage consistent with an EF-1 tornado in the Powell area just northwest of Rainsville in DeKalb County.
The storm had top wind speeds estimated at 104 mph; that, according to preliminary storm reports released Thursday afternoon. The tornado touched down at 8:21pm Wednesday slightly east of County Road 120; it was on the ground for about eight minutes, covering just over six miles. That tornado destroyed an outbuilding, and caused minor damage to roofs of several homes near Kirk Road Southwest. It destroyed several carports near Rainbow Road, and caused roof damage at Bluescope Steel before lifting just west of Highway 75.
