In light of a continued rise in hospitalized COVID patients and increasing community spread of infection, Floyd Medical Center is further limiting visitation at all locations, with that including outpatient services as diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation services, wound care, primary care and urgent care.

Effective TODAY (Friday, August 27th) – visitors will NOT BE ALLOWED at emergency departments, Primary Care or Urgent Care offices OR any outpatient services facility, with the following exceptions:

• Patients requiring assistance due to medical, language, mental health or educational barriers
• Patients facing end-of-life circumstances
• Patients under the age of 18
• Patients with extenuating circumstances will be addressed on a case-by-case basis

The following patients will be allowed one designated visitor:

• Patients admitted for hospitalization, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
• Surgery patients
• Patients receiving diagnostic testing that requires anesthesia
• New mothers

In addition to the designated visitor a birthing coach is permitted during active labor

The following patients will be allowed two designated visitors:

• Patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
• Pediatric patients and minors

Visitors who are experiencing flu-like symptoms, that have tested positive for COVID or who are suspected of having COVIID are not permitted.  

Children under the age of 16 also are restricted from visiting. Visitors older than 65 and all with an increased risk for complications from COVID-19, are also discouraged from visiting.

“We are saddened that the record-high number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has led to this difficult decision,” said Dr. Sheila Bennett, Executive Vice President and Chief of Patient Services. “We understand the important role family members play in the healing process, but we must make every effort to ensure the safety of our patients.”  Dr. Bennett stressed her belief that the COVID vaccine is the best defense against the virus; “Over  90% of our positive hospitalized patients are unvaccinated,” Dr. Bennett said. “I encourage those in our community who aren’t yet vaccinated to help us reverse this surge by trusting our medical community and getting the COVID-19 vaccine.”
