Mr. George Edsel Williams, age 90 of Rainbow City, passed away Sunday, July 4th at Gadsden Health & Rehab.

Graveside services will be 11:AM Friday, July 9th at Cherokee Memory Gardens with Rev. Buddy O’Bryant officiating.

Pallbearers include Mike Brittain, Trac Owens, Jonathan Lloyd, Larry Brittain, Dr. Justin Owens and Major Zach Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Metro Bank Board of Directors.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Brewster Williams; daughter, Carla Louise Williams.

He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy L. Coheley Williams; brothers, Edward B. Williams, Jr. and Mack Williams; sisters, Ellen T. Williams and Katherine R. Williams.

Mr. Williams was a native of Gadsden, the son of the late Edward B. and Lutie Taylor Williams. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. William retired from Pell City Alabama Power Company as District Manager after 40 years of service.

George E. Williams belonged to numerous organizations and founded many. His Curriculum vitae of civic/charitable contributions is very extensive, it includes: Founding member/Board of Directors Metro Bank, Member of the Masons, Member of the American Legion, Member of the Alabama Power Eastern Division of Engineers, Founding Member of the Pell City Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Pell City City Council, Member of Pell City Lion’s Club, Member of Head Start, and a Member of the Pell City Industrial Board.

Mr. Williams received many awards for his accomplishments during his life including: Pell City Citizen of the Year, Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award, Pell City Lion of the Year, Alabama State Blood Program Award (Red Cross), and Grand Marshall Pell City Christmas Parade 1980.
