“Youthful Offender” Request Denied for Teen Accused of Slaying Mother and Two Brothers

You may very well recall when a Talladega County teen, charged with brutally killing his mother and two younger brothers in January, 2020 was taken into custody locally on County Road 71 by Cherokee County law enforcement officials.

Landon Hudson Durham, now 18, stands charged with Capital Murder in the stabbing death of his mother, Holli Christina Durham, age 36 and brothers Branson and Baron Durham, both 13.  Authorities believe that the victims were killed around 3:00am, on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 inside their home in Munford.  It appeared he then went to sleep before getting back up and going to Munford High School later that morning.

Family members went to the home that day after being unable to contact anyone and made the gruesome discovery; they immediately dialed 9-1-1.  Within moments local deputies responded to the location on Roy Lackey Lane and soon issued a lookout for Landon Durham to surrounding agencies.

He was later taken into custody without incident at a store near County Road 38 here in Cherokee County, and was apparently on his way to Etowah County.

Attorneys for Durham had requested he be tried under the “youthful offender” status which would’ve eliminated a jury trial, sealed all of the court records and if convicted given him a maximum of only three years in prison.

Circuit Judge William Hollingsworth denied the request.

We’ll continue to follow this story and provide details on any new developments.
