SPRING GARDEN – Ace Austin’s bloop single to center in the bottom of the seventh inning provided the winning run in Spring Garden’s 5-4 decision over Sand Rock in the Class 2A, Area 12 softball tournament on Thursday.
Austin also doubled and drove in three runs for the Lady Panthers. Kayley Kirk went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and a RBI. Abbey Steward also had a pair of hits, a walk, a run and a RBI. Avery Steward delivered a hit, two walks and two runs. Neely Welsh finished with a hit and a walk.
Abbey Steward earned the win in the circle. She went the distance, scattering eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts.
Sand Rock rallied from an early three-run deficit in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3. The Lady Wildcats took a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the seventh before Spring Garden rallied for two in the bottom half.
Jadyn Foster suffered the loss for the Lady Wildcats. She worked 4 1/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. She also doubled and scored a run at the plate.
Maggie Hester added a pair of doubles, a run and a RBI. EllaGrace Hood had two hits, including a double, with a run and a RBI. Katelyn St. Clair homered and walked. Maggie Tinsley doubled and Rylin St. Clair finished with a hit.
Sand Rock faces Gaston in an elimination game this afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner faces Spring Garden in the championship game at 5:30 p.m.

SPRING GARDEN – EllaGrace Hood, Katelyn St. Clair and Maggie Tinsley each blasted home runs, and three pitchers combined to no-hit Gaston in Sand Rock’s 23-0 win in the Class 2A, Area 12 softball tournament opener on Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats pounded out 17 hits. Hood and St. Clair both went 3-for-3. Hood also had a pair of doubles, walked and drove in seven runs. St. Clair also had a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in four runs. Tinsley drove in three runs.
Sammi Parker posted three hits and scored three runs. Lindsey Chambers contributed two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Sherina Foster doubled, walked, scored twice and drove in three runs. Jadyn Foster doubled and scored twice. Rylin St. Clair had a hit and scored three runs. Maggie Hester had a hit and scored two runs. Briley Knight finished with a hit, a run and a RBI.
