CENTRE – White Plains scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to provide the difference in a 3-1 win over Cherokee County in the Class 4A, Area 9 softball tournament on Thursday.
Karlee Perry led the Lady Warriors (19-15) with a pair of hits and a walk. Anna Walker doubled and had a RBI.
Carson Coley and Alana Loyd both contributed a hit. Loyd scored the lone Lady Warrior run in the bottom of the fourth. She also suffered the loss after scattering three earned runs on eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Jaylee Crow earned the win for White Plains (21-20). She allowed an earned run on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Callie Richardson homered and drove in two runs for the Lady Wildcats. Hallie Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a pair of runs. Lily Ponder was also 2-for-3 with a RBI. Kaylee Johnson contributed a pair of hits, and Camden Wilson finished with a hit.
Cherokee County takes on Jacksonville in the losers bracket this afternoon at 4 p.m. The winner will face White Plains in the championship game at 6:30 p.m.
