Cherokee County’s outdoor track and field teams competed in sectional meets across the state on Friday and Saturday.
At the Class 1A, Section 4 meet at Fort Payne, Cedar Bluff’s boys finished second and the Lady Tigers took third.
Cedar Bluff’s boys claimed first place in the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays. Nick Clifton led the Tiger boys individually with a first place in the 110 meter hurdles. He was also third in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Anbre Leek placed first in the javelin and second in the long jump. Artie Duvall delivered a second place showing in the 400 meter and Dylan Kinard earned second in the discus and shot put.
The Lady Tigers won the 4×400 meter relay. They were also second in the 4×100 meter relay. Taranisha Stitts took second place in the 200 meter dash and Skye Jordan finished third in the 100 meter dash.
At the Class 4A, Section 4 meet at James Clemens High School in Madison, the Cherokee County the Lady Warriors finished fourth overall while the Warrior boys took eighth.
The Lady Warrior 4×400 meter relay team finished first after breaking a school record by running 4:16. The Lady Warrior 4×100 meter relay team finished second and the girls 4×800 meter relay team finished fourth.
Sidney Johnson took second in the 400 meter. She was also fourth in the 200 meter. Mary Hayes Johnson earned third place in the 100 meter and fifth in the 400 meter. Kaylee Green took third in the shot put, and Audrey Green finished fifth in the 800 meter.
Jack Sammit placed first is the shot put, the 100 meter ambulatory and 200 meter ambulatory events. Whit Johnson claimed second in the 100 meter and the 200 meter. Alex Johnson took third in 100 meter and fourth in the 200 meter. Lamycal Mitchell finished fifth in the 300 meter hurdles. Isaac Hunter placed fifth in the shot put.
The Warrior boys 4×400 meter relay team finished fifth after breaking a school record. Their time was 3:38.
Sand Rock’s boys were sixth and the Lady Wildcats eighth in the Class 2A, Section 4 meet at Guntersville.
Jack Watson took first in the 300 meter hurdles. Magnus Goolsby and Hunter Privett finished second and third respectively in the 110 meter hurdles. Goolsby gained second place in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. Bryan East earned fourth in the javelin and fifth in the discus.
The Wildcat 4×400 meter relay team finished fourth.
Brylaina Holcomb topped the Lady Wildcats with fourth place in the javelin. She also came in sixth in the long jump. Samantha Carr came in fifth in the 800 meter run. Zoey Handy had a fifth-place outing in the in the 100 meter hurdles. She also finished ninth in the long jump.
The Lady Wildcats earned third in the 4×800 and fourth in the 4×400 meter relays.
