Welshes lead Spring Garden baseball past Sand Rock

SAND ROCK – In the rubber game of their Class 2A, Area 12 baseball series on Thursday, Spring Garden rallied from a three-run deficit in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, then scored three more in the seventh to take a 9-8 win at Sand Rock.

Luke and Cam Welsh led the Panther offense. Both went 3-for-3 with a home run apiece. Luke Welsh also doubled and scored three runs. Cam Welsh walked, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Jackson Maddox collected a pair of doubles, two runs and a RBI for the Panthers (16-10, 5-3). Ryley Kirk and Chaz Pope both went 2-for-4 with a run. Kirk also drove in a run. Grayden Guthrie and Landon Gowens both had a hit and a RBI. Chapel Pope finished with a hit.

Maddox earned the win in relief of Cam Welsh. He tossed 2 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Austin Yoder had a perfect day at the plate for the Wildcats (11-8, 4-4). He went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Logan Wood and Cade Ballenger both went 2-for-4 with a walk. Wood drove in four runs. Ballenger drove in a run and scored another.

Jacob Cornejo and Slade St. Clair both collected a hit, a walk and a run. St. Clair also had a RBI. Brian Giles had a hit. Olin Pruitt scored a run. Ethan Clanton walked and scored a run.

Clanton also suffered the loss.
