A Dalton man was arrested over the weekend on multiple charges by members of the Summerville Police Department – after reportedly being found loitering near an area convenience store. Sergeant David Westbrooks and Officer Thomas Sainthill encountered the suspect at the rear of the Circle K Store located on Commerce Street. Summerville Police reports indicate that, after attempting to talk with the man about why he was loitering at the back of the store, the subject fled on foot.
He ran into a tall fence behind the store, and following several unsuccessful attempts to scale the fence he was taken into custody – with officers being forced to use a taser after he failed to respond to verbal commands to stop.
During the chase, the subject had thrown his backpack over the fence and it was soon located by Officers; he also discarded two cigarette packs. In the backpack the police officers located approximately two pounds of suspected marijuana with weighing and packaging materials. Inside one of those cigarette packs, two grams of suspected methamphetamine was found and the subject also had $800 in cash on him.
While at the jail David Aaron Ball, age 25, was found to be in possession of additional suspected marijuana. Ball was charged with Possession of Marijuana over one ounce
Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Marijuana with Intent within 1000 feet of a housing project; Possession of Methamphetamine; Giving a false name and date of birth to law enforcement; Crossing a Guard line with Drugs; Loitering and Prowling and Obstruction of Officers.
