BILOXI, Miss. – The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats finished runner-up in the Paul Wallace Classic at Vancleave High School in Mississippi over the weekend.
They defeated George County 56-5 on Thursday, then defeated Biloxi 56-51 on Friday to clinch a berth in the tournament final against Ocean Springs on Saturday. Ocean Springs defeated Sand Rock 53-44.
Lanie Henderson was selected Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Caley Garrett was chosen for the all-tournament team.
In the win over George County, Henderson collected seven points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Garrett delivered six points, four boards, four steals and three assists. Haylee Stansell contributed six points, a rebound and an assist. Makenzi Blackwell had five points and a rebound. Katelyn St. Clair finished with five points, three boards, an assist and a steal.
In the win over Biloxi, Garrett led the way with 16 points, six steals, four rebounds, an assist and a block. Haley Grace Lisenbee posted 15 points, five boards, four assists and a steal. Henderson had 14 points, eight boards, an assist and a steal. Maci Brown contributed five points, three rebounds and two assists. Arleigh Beard finished with four points, five boards and two steals.
In the tournament final against Ocean Springs, Henderson scored 21 points (including three 3-pointers), grabbed eight rebounds, had three steals and blocked a shot. Garrett came away with 12 points, seven boards, two assists and a steal. Brown finished with nine points, 12 boards, two steals and a block.
