New CES Building Receives Minor Damage After Sprinkler System Inadvertently Triggered

Minor damage was reported at the new Centre Elementary School building after the sprinkler system/fire alarm was inadvertently triggered on Tuesday.

According to Principal Wes Neyman, a plumber cut a wrong pipe causing two sensors to get wet. When those sensors detected trouble, they tripped the alarm causing the sprinklers to activate which caused flooding in the hallway and damaged ceiling tiles.

Centre Firefighters and Centre Police officers responded to the school after receiving an alarm from the smoke detector. They also assisted in the cleanup effort.

Neyman said that the damage was minimal and issues will be fixed today.

The school is preparing to host a reception/tour of the new school for retired Centre Elementary Teachers and Staff on Friday.
