A Fyffe man drowned after falling into the water while fishing at the Weiss Dam on Saturday.
Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton said that 49 year old Gary Wayne Houston was fishing and dropped his pole into the water while attempting to reel in a catch; he jumped in to retrieve his fishing rod and never resurfaced.
The Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Leesburg Firefighters, Sheriff’s Office deputies, Leesburg Police, Floyd EMS and Cherokee County EMA Officials responded to the scene to assist in recovering Houston from the water.
