WEIS Radio News spoke with Congressman Mike Rogers via telephone on Thursday morning regarding a number of issues including the $400 boost to unemployment payments which was part of President Trump’s recent “Executive Order”:

Rogers pointed out that time was running out in which a deal could be struck, which lead to President Trump moving forward:

The unemployment benefits officially called the “Assistance Program for Lost Wages,” – will provide the extra funds each week to those unemployed individuals deemed eligible; and of that $400, $300 would come from the federal government while $100 would come from the state.

Trump’s Executive Order stipulates the benefits are retroactive to August 1st.

The $400 increased benefit is set to expire no later than December 6th of this year (2020).
