Cherokee County Commission Recognizes EMA and Local Firefighters

During this week’s meeting of the County Commission, the Commission passed a resolution recognizing the extra work of the Cherokee County  EMA Office and the Volunteer Firemen and their respective departments in their assistance to the Attalla Fire Department on September 30th when a 275,000 square foot building caught fire. EMA Director Shawn Rogers told the Commission the group put in more than 400 man hours and furnished many trucks to assist in containing the blaze. Commissioner Foster read the Resolution recognizing each department.

The Resolution passed with copies given to the various departments.

In other business, the Commission approved the participation in the Shop At Home Campaign with WEIS Radio in the amount of $2050, an office to be constructed in the Admin Building for the VA Office in the amount of $2000 in material costs with labor to be done by county employees, and a Taylor 35 kilowatt power generator for the Admin Building at a cost of $22,921.

The next regular meeting of the County Commission is set for the 2nd Monday in November with work session at 9A and the regular meeting at 10 which is open to the Public.
