Police believe distracted driving may have played a role in a collision taking place on Tuesday morning between a pickup truck and a motorized wheelchair in West Rome.
The mishap occurred around 8:30am at the intersection of Addington Drive and Redmond Road. According to Rome Police, the woman was crossing Addington in her wheelchair and was struck by a Toyota Tacoma turning onto Addington from Redmond.
The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup was detained. Police stated that he did not have a license, and they found his phone with Facebook opened on it – leading officers to believe he was watching a video when the collision occurred.
