Motion To Approve Sunday Alcohol Sales In The City Of Centre Fails

A motion to approve Sunday alcohol sales in the City of Centre failed to pass on Tuesday – the motion to adopt the ordinance must be a unanimous vote of the City Council and Councilman Harry Moon voted “No” Councilman Cedric Williams abstaining.

Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie said that the ordinance will be placed on the agenda again in two weeks for a revote. There must be a majority vote to send the ordinance into law.

The discussion was that there would no time restrictions for on/off premises sales. We will provide an update following the next Centre City Council meeting which is set for Tuesday October, 8 at 5:00 p.m.

Most recently, the Town of Leesburg adopted and approved an ordinance for Sunday alcohol sales at their September meeting.
