34 year old Summerville resident Tiffany Cook – who is a former Georgia Department of Corrections officer – entered a guilty plea to a charge of being paid by a prison inmate to smuggle methamphetamine and marijuana into Hays State Prison.

According to U.S. Attorney B.J. Pak, Cook began working with the GDC as a correctional officer at Hays State Prison in April of 2017.

In early July, the GDC received information from an inmate that Cook was being paid to smuggle illegal drugs into the prison. On July 9th, Cook was found to be possession of more than 118 grams of actual methamphetamine (with a purity of 90%) and more than 150 grams of marijuana. 

After seizing the methamphetamine and marijuana, correctional officers placed Cook under arrest. She was charged with one count of possession, with intent to distribute, a controlled substance.  Cook pled guilty and will be sentenced in December (2018) before U.S. District Judge Harold L. Murphy in Rome.

This case is being investigated by the FBI and the Georgia Department of Corrections.
