Centre firefighters were dispatched to the Cherokee County Health & Rehab Activity Center on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre at around 5:40am Wednesday in response to a fire alarm; upon arrival they viewed smoke inside the facility, and requested assistance from the Cedar Bluff and Spring Creek departments.
According to Centre Fire Chief Will Gardner, the motor on a huge Central Heating & Air Unit had shorted out, sending smoke into the center. Firefighters immediately made sure that the situation was under control, then set about ventilating the building. No one was hurt or displaced during the incident.
