Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver informed WEIS Radio News that a chase took place on Monday after Sheriff’s Office investigators attempted to stop a vehicle on Alabama Highway 9 north of Cedar Bluff for not having a license plate.  The vehicle, later determined to be stolen out of Georgia, was occupied by a Rome, Georgia couple.  The pursuit came to an end at the intersection of Georgia Highway 20 and 100 near Plant Hammond and the two were then taken into custody with assistance from the Floyd County Police Department. 

Illegal drugs were also discovered inside that vehicle.  The driver, Nicholas J. Ashley, age 26, was arrested on an existing Georgia warrant and the passenger, Catherine G. Sartin, also 26, was arrested on theft charges.  Both were transported to the Floyd County Jail, where they await extradition to Cherokee County on charges of receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, unlawful possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
