Coroner’s Office Confirms One Person Dead In Highway 9 Accident / UPDATED

A serious two-vehicle crash took place at approximately 11:35am Monday, on Highway 9 at Westbrook Street in Cedar Bluff, with one of those vehicles catching on fire.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, 76 year old Annie Pearl Bishop of Cedar Bluff was fatally injured in the collision. 

The driver of the vehicle she was in was taken to Cherokee Medical Center, and from there was air-lifted to an area trauma center for treatment.

The driver of the second vehicle, the one that caught fire, was not injured.

Alabama Highway 9 North from Old Highway 9 to Westbrook Street in front of H&L Motors was shut down for over two hours while Homicide Investigators worked the scene gathering information after firefighters worked to extinguish the vehicle.

The victim had to be extricated from the car by rescue personnel and firefighters.

Cedar Bluff Police and Firefighters, Cherokee EMS the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene.

According to the Alabama State Troopers Post the Cedar Bluff Police Department is heading up the investigation into the accident.
