Cherokee County School Board Approves Amended Capital Plan For 2018

Following some lengthy discussion during the planning session of the Cherokee County Board of Education, the board voted to approve an amended Capital Plan for 2018 totaling approximately $14 million dollars.

School Board President Brian Jennings said that every campus, excluding Centre Middle School, the newest school in the system, will be included in the amended Capital Plan which will add an additional $30 million dollars to the plan.

Jennings said the state legislature could vote as early as next spring to approve a major bond issue that could generate additional funds for capital improvement projects.

In the mean time, the board will continue its fiduciary responsibility to balance academic needs while making sure issues on each campus are resolved in a timely manner beginning with issues at Centre Elementary School, the end results being a safe, well lit, clean, climate controlled, secure facility.

Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice told WEIS Radio News that a copy of that plan will be provided, as soon as we receive it we will post it to our website at weisradio.com.

Mr. Guice also made a special presentation to Board.

In other business, the board approved an agreement with Tenon, LLC for Consulting Services and approved a list of Professional Development items.

The board would also like to cordially invite everyone to the annual ‘Evening in the Garden’ at Spring Garden High School coming up on October 16th.
