Floyd County Coroner Gene Procter was called to the scene, just after 12:00 noon Thursday, following the discovery of a body near the railroad tracks off Cedar Avenue in Rome. The call to 9-1-1 was made by a railroad employee who stated that the subject appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.
Procter pronounced the man dead at 12:45pm saying only that the individual was a 24 year old black male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, adding he had been dead for two to three hours.
The matter remains under investigation
