The Roadway is NOW OPEN
The driver of the rig had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Piedmont Rescue Squad.
The Ball Play Fire Department also responded.

The road is now open to one lane of traffic. Motorists traveling in that area should slow down and exercise caution. Allow extra travel time. No word yet on when the road will be fully re-opened.
AS OF 6:50am THURSDAY
According to Alabama State Troopers an 18 wheeler has overturned on Highway 278 east – close to Hokes Bluff near Tomcat Road.
BOTH lanes of traffic are currently closed – it’s unclear how long the roadway will be closed but it could be for a lengthy period of time.
