According to information in a news release from Ft Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum, about 4:30 Monday afternoon the driver of a 1995 International Transfer Truck lost control of the rig coming down the mountain on 35 – and when he witnessed what is known far and wide as “Joe’s Truck Stop” – aka the brick wall at the foot of the mountain – he decided to exit the road to the right, crashing through a yard at 5th Street Northeast and Wallace Avenue.
The driver, Jarvis Sentell Woods of Cottondale, Alabama, jumped from the truck to safety as the vehicle slid several feet and struck a power pole.
Woods managed to escape injury.
The accident remains under investigation
