Two individuals were arrested in connection to stolen identities and fraudulent use of credit cards, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“Joey Eromosele Elebesunu, 23, of Jacksonville, AL, and Shaquaria Nicole Calhoun, 19, of Atlanta, GA, were arrested and are each charged with trafficking in stolen identities, illegal possession/fraudulent use of a credit card, second degree receiving stolen property and third degree receiving stolen property, all are felonies,” investigator Stephen McGlathery said.
The duo allegedly used counterfeit credit cards, with the name ‘Ashley Smith’, to purchase several iPhone 7 Plus cellular phones from two stores (one in Guntersville, the other in Pell City). They were apprehended after attempting to purchase additional phones at a third store, in Gadsden, when the credit cards they used were identified by the store as stolen.
The numbers used, on the counterfeit credit cards, were actual accounts verified by the issuing financial institute.
Elebesunu is currently being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $34,000 bond. Calhoun was booked in and later released on bond.
