Nationals’ Trea Turner fractures wrist after hit by pitch

G. Fiume/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — The Nationals’ Trea Turner is out with a broken wrist.

The shortstop was hit in the right wrist by a 96-mile-an-hour fastball from Chicago reliever Pedro Strop in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Nationals lost 5-4 to the Cubs.

The 24-year-old remained in the game. He caught a pop-up in the top of the next inning, but was replaced by reserve infielder Wilmer Difo in the top of the ninth.

Turner’s injury was confirmed by X-rays taken after the game. It’s not yet known how much time the shortstop will miss.
