An Etowah County man lost his life in a vehicle wreck Thursday, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

Gerald Cargile Poe, 75, of Attalla, died after the vehicle that he was driving left the roadway on Duck Springs Road and landed near the intersection of Willis Drive and Pine Drive.  The accident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

The incident was a single vehicle accident.

A passenger, Patricia Studdard Poe, 71, was ejected from the vehicle.  She was taken to a Birmingham hospital by helicopter.

Mr. Poe was retired from the Gadsden Police Department and Orange Beach Police Department.
