Georgia Power will reportedly be cutting its workforce at Plant Hammond in Coosa around one-third – some 80 jobs – by the end of the year, due to what they’ve referred to as current “economic and market conditions”
Company officials say they’re working to ensure a smooth transition for employees affected by the cuts, which have already begun.
The Institute of Energy Economics & Financial Analysis recently issued a report stating that it costs $94 per megawatt-hour for that plant to operate – almost double what it would cost to purchase power on the open market.
