Trump Says His Now 'Laid-Back' Supporters Were 'Vicious' During Campaign

Ty Wright/Getty Images(ORLANDO, Fla.) — President-elect Donald Trump brought his ‘thank you’ tour to the battleground state of Florida on Friday evening — his first time holding a rally in the state since winning the election.

The sunshine state was his most traveled battleground state during the election, spending 19 days campaigning in the state since clinching the nomination May 26.

Trump did not address President Obama’s Friday news conference discussing Russia’s hacking and Aleppo, but for the second time in a row he brought up the need for safe zones to protect refugees.

“We are going to build safe zones in Syria,” he said. “We are going to build safe zones. And we are going to get the gulf states to pay for the safe zones and we’ll try on help people. We are going to try and we are going to get it done.”

The president-elect also also referred to his supporters as being “vicious” and “violent” during the campaign, calling them “laid back” and “mellow” following his victory.

“Four weeks ago just prior to and always prior to you people were vicious violent, screaming where’s the wall, screaming ‘Prison, prison,’ ‘Lock her up.’ You were going crazy. I mean, you were nasty and mean and vicious and you wanted to win, right?” Trump said. “Now you’re laid back, you’re cool, your mellow, right? You’re basking in the glory of victory and we’re already getting to work.”

The crowd still broke out in chants of “Lock her up!” during the rally.
