Hanes Donates Socks to the Homeless in New York City

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Hanes is going to donate 500 pairs of socks to New Yorkers in need.

According to The New York Post, the clothing company was inspired by an act of kindness earlier this month when Officer Frank Rendina of the NYPD Transit Bureau’s Anti-Terrorism Unit gifted a homeless man with a pair of socks.

December 2, Rendina encountered 65-year-old Richard Brown at Grand Central Station, digging through a trash can. Brown told him he needed specialty socks for his diabetes. So Rendina bought him a pair.

Now Hanes is putting their best foot forward. The company pledged the donation, which NYPD Chief Joseph Fox announced on Twitter, writing, “Inspired by our cop’s act of kindness, @Hanes steps up w/ 500 pairs of socks for NYers in need! Our BRC partners will get them where needed.”

Hanes tweeted, “Socks are the most requested but least donated item of clothing at homeless shelters. We are proud to support @NYPDTransit in their efforts.”
