Gadsden Police are currently investigating a call from a woman who reported Tuesday, that a clown was trying to break into her home.

Officers responded to the scene in the 3500 block of Ivy Place just before 3:00am where the 33 year old complainant said she was awakened by a loud noise in the living room; she said upon entering the room she saw a woman wearing white facial makeup and a clown outfit.

The two scuffled until the nephew of the resident of the home came running into the room – at which point the clown fled – leaving behind what appeared to be a bag that could be used in a burglary.

According to police, at around that same time dispatchers received several calls reporting a woman in clown makeup “harassing people” in the area.

Captain Paul Cody of the Gadsden PD, said the incidents appear to be a series of pranks that are getting out of control, adding “people need to be careful, not everyone finds this kind of thing funny – and, if you engage in this kind of behavior, you may find yourself in a situation that you can’t control.”

He says law enforcement is taking this very seriously and stresses that they will investigate accordingly.

This incident is just the latest in a rash of reports across Alabama and several other states – with many dealing with social media posts and no actual sightings of clowns.

Two teenagers in Calhoun County have been arrested in connection with a school threat.
