18 Wheeler Catches Fire After Hitting Wrecked Car on I-59 / UPDATED

According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident reports three people were hurt in single-vehicle accident on I-59 at around 2:30 Thursday morning eight miles north of Reece City.

The 1995 Chevrolet had apparently hit the guardrail and two occupants of the vehicle were ejected; according to reports two people were air-lifted from the scene, while the other was taken by ground unit to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver was listed on reports as 18 year old Winston Luna of a Minter, Alabama address; the two passengers were juveniles, both age 15.

Moments later, the vehicle that had wrecked was struck by an 18 wheeler being driven by a Mississippi resident, identified as Charles Frazier.

He was taken to an area hospital and checked out simply as a precautionary measure.

That stretch of roadway was closed down for several hours as a result of the crashes.

The accidents remain under investigation.
