Candlelight Memorial to be Held for JSU Student Killed in Labor Day Auto Accident

Jacksonville State University will hold a Candlelight Memorial Service Wednesday night, for Katie Beth Carter, who was fatally injured in an auto accident Monday afternoon.

The 2011 Honda Accord being driven by the 18 year old was struck by a 2014 International tractor trailer at approximately 3:30 that afternoon, at the intersection of Highway 278 and Roy Webb Road about ten miles north of Jacksonville.

She was on her way back to school after the holiday weekend.

Carter was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta at around 6:00pm.  The driver of the truck was taken to RMC Jacksonville as a precautionary measure following the crash.

That accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

Carter, from Ringgold, Georgia was a student at JSU and was also a member of the Marching Ballerinas, the marching band’s dancers.  That Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 tonight (Wednesday, September 7th) in the parking lot at Pete Matthews Coliseum.

Visitation and funeral services will take place at City Church of Chattanooga, Tennessee this Thursday (September 8th).

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00pm EASTERN to be followed immediately by the service.
