The Governor’s Office has notified the County Commission, that the Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs has awarded the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office a grant in the amount of $5,000.
Sheriff Jeff Shaver says his office applied for that grant to help replace aging handguns used by deputies saying that many of those weapons are nearly twenty years old and not in good condition.
That grant will reportedly allow the Sheriff’s Office to replace about half of their handguns.
Shaver stated, “…I appreciate the cooperation between the Sheriff’s Office, ADECA, and the County Commission to make the purchase possible, which will make our deputies safer.”
