Floyd County authorities say it could be some time before remains found in the Coosa River near Heritage Park can be identified.
A man fishing in the area Sunday afternoon, discovered the body about a half-mile from the ball fields; the discovery was made around 4:30.
Deputy Floyd County Coroner Gene Procter, estimated the remains had been in the water for at least four months. Procter said there were no obvious signs of trauma, and judging from the clothing, the body appears to be that of a male.
The body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for identification and an autopsy.
