Floyd County Inmate Dies Wednesday

Rome Inmate Death

An inmate at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was found Wednesday afternoon in his cell in an “unresponsive” state.

Theodore JePaul Barnett was transported from the scene to Floyd Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead; Public Information Officer Deputy Carrie Edge stated (quote) “at the request of Sheriff Burkhalter, the GBI is conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter…and based on jail reports, it appears to be a suicide; however, the GBI and coroner will make the final conclusion as to cause of death.” (end-quote)

Barnett led Floyd County Police Officers on a chase stretching more than twenty miles last Thursday before finally being apprehended, and charged with a laundry list of offenses that included:  felony possession of cocaine, attempting to elude police, aggravated assault on an officer and first degree burglary, just to name a few.
