Close Call During “Lucky Lotto” Hold Up in Rome

Lucky LottoThree witnesses to an armed robbery at a Shorter Avenue business said they heard the gun click during the incident on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to Lucky Lotto, 1614 Shorter Avenue at 12:20 p.m. and found the female clerk crying and upset, according to a Rome police report.

She told police a black male dressed in dark clothing pointed a black revolver at her and jumped over the counter and took some cash.

One man in the store tried to get behind the counter to help but the door was locked. He said he heard the gun click.

A second witness said he heard the click of the revolver “like it was being fired” but the revolver did not go off, according to the report. That witness chased the suspect out of the store and across Shorter Avenue but lost him in the area of Wingfield and Conn Streets.

A third witness also reported hearing the click of the revolver.

Anyone who may have information on the robbery is asked to call Rome police at 706-238-5111.
