Authorities have now released the name of the individual killed by a train in Lindale on Tuesday evening.
Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studdard stated 40 year old Lanny Shane Huckaby of Rome was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:10pm; identification was made after fingerprints had been matched electronically through the Floyd County Police Department.
Huckaby was struck by the train on the Lindale Mill side of the tracks – approximately 300 yards from the Park Avenue Crossing.
Why the man had failed to move from the tracks, even though a warning horn had been sounded, remains unclear. The Norfolk Southern crew said he would have had sufficient time to get out of the way, but failed to do so.
