The Centre City Council Tuesday voted to sponsor a 5K/10K Run in honor of former Police Chief Val Courtney.
While it will be a city event, the details will be handled by Odyssey Fitness.
Kurt Duryea addressed the council and explained the idea behind the event.
The 5K will start at 8 a.m. on April the 19th. There will also be the 10K “Chief’s Challenge” which will be a three person team event.
The goal is to make this a first class event.

Any funds left over from sponsorships and entry fees would go toward a scholarship in memory of Chief Courtney.
The council did vote to lend its support for the event but declined to allocate any money.
That’s when Councilman Marc Johnson stated that he believes in the effort so much, that he will personally cover any expenses not covered by sponsors should the event not break even.
The Start-Finish Line will be at the Centre Armory Building. Once again, the event is scheduled for April the 19th.
