Things began to return back to normal following several days of wintery weather in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Schools will be in session Friday at the regular time.

DeKalb County Schools and Cornerstone Christian Academy will operate on a three hour delay tomorrow.

Fort Payne City Schools will be open for normal hours Friday.

Thursday night, the area received anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of snow.

However, by sun up, it had already started to melt and businesses and government offices began reopening.

Most of the roads were in relatively good shape this morning and have improved through the day. That’s not to say there weren’t some treacherous spots.

There was a single vehicle accident near Slackland Church on Highway 411 South just after 9 a.m.

The vehicle ended up on its side off of the roadway.

There was no entrapment and the female driver was not hurt.

We were also lucky to escape widespread power outages.

Sarah Bright with Cherokee Electric Co-op reported that there were 250 to 300 customers without power, mostly in the Lickskillet, Sand Mountain, Lookout Mountain in the ridges and Mentone areas.
