Even though we have Advisories from the Alabama Department of Transportation, and overnight snowfall of anywhere between two and five inches across the county, things certainly could have been worse.

We’ve had no reports of any significant power outages locally – and roadways are in better shape than we had originally expected them to be at this point.

The roads will likely continue to improve and clear rapidly as temperatures begin to rise with the sun coming up.

According to information from Emergency Dispatch in Cherokee County, no major travel issues have been reported.

We spoke with County Engineer Corey Chambers and he informed us that he and other members of the Cherokee County Highway Department are out checking on road conditions this morning:

Bear in mind – caution should still be exercised especially on lesser-traveled roadways and on all secondary roads; we’ve had reports indicating that one especially bad spot is on County Road1 at the intersection with County Road 36.

We spoke with Sarah Bright from the Cherokee Electric Co-op this morning and she informed us that they had experienced a number of very minor problems where tree limbs had been weighted down and some fuses were blown causing temporary outages. In each case, repair crews were on the scene quickly to make repairs and restore service.

Cherokee Electric crews continue to travel across the area this morning searching for any trouble spots that may require attention.
