Second Person Dies From Injuries Sustained in U.S. 78 Accident

A second person involved in an accident that claimed the life of a 64 year old Heflin woman last Wednesday (January 8th) – has passed away.

80 year old Catherine McCormick, also of Heflin, died Sunday (January 12th) at UAB; that three vehicle crash – which took place on U.S. 78, five miles west of Heflin at around 9:30 that night –  resulted in the death of 64 year old Cathy McComb, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A third vehicle struck the wreckage of the initial crash.

McCormick was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

According to Sergeant Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Department of Public Safety a preliminary investigation indicated that ice on the roadway was possibly a contributing factor.

The investigation into the accident is on-going.
